Five for fighting

November 27th, 2007, 1:24 am · 3 Comments · posted by Armando

Well, only five teams from the Valley are left in the state playoffs. You know what that means…time to listen to debates and comments as to why our teams can’t beat teams from upstate.

Growing up in the Valley, I’ve heard them all and participated in a few. You’ve got one side (the pessemists) who love to tout the Valley’s ineptness in playoff football. Donna’s 1961 boys were lucky, they say. Hogwash I say, but that’s another blog.

Then you have the other half who feels the Valley is getting better and therefore closer. I’m pretty much in this group, but in this microwave society, people want results NOW. And I understand. It’s been 45 seasons since we’ve seen a state champion in public school football. Will it happen? I think so. Will it happen now? Who knows? What I do know is we are supporting the five teams still in it this weekend (La Joya, Weslaco, Harlingen South, Los Fresnos and Santa Rosa). Good luck to all of those teams. Let me know your thoughts.

Good luck to the Warriors. Bring home the title. Good luck also goes out to the Panthers, Falcons, Coyotes, and Hawks on their quests to be State Champs. And to the RGV fans, even if your home team is out, go out and support the teams still left in the playoffs. Fans can make a difference.

I really hope that my hometown of Santa Rosa can pull it off. It would be the greatest Cinderella story told for the Decade! God-willing! One day the South Texas football programs will improve and people will take us more seriously throughout the state of Texas. Good luck to the rest of the Valley Teams!

I read an article a few days ago where a Santa Rosa fan was trashing us, the community of Donna and hoping that Los Fresnos would beat us, etc… Well I have news for you, you are an idiot for saying what you said, and no, we will not shut up and here it is again, Donna is and forever will be the only and I repeat the only high school in the RGV to have won a State Championship. We had a great team then and we have a lot of tradition because of that special team. Your Warriors will not do what we did, sorry bud. GO REDSKINS !!!!
